Missouri AG Tells FBI to Pound Sand, Says No Review of CCW Permit Holders

(Trending Politics) The Attorney General of Missouri, Eric Schmitt became aware last month that the FBI was contacting various sheriffs around the state, informing them to expect a visit from the FBI to inspect the department’s Concealed Carry Weapons permits.
The FBI intrusion into protected records infuriated Schmitt so, that he penned a letter to FBI Director, Christopher Wray on July 13, 2022, that basically told the FBI to go pound sand and deny the FBI access to said records.
Schmitt’s letter opens by informing Wray that Schmitt had become aware of the FBI’s intent to “audit” CCW permits at various county sheriff’s offices across the state. Schmitt made clear that “Allowing federal agents from the FBI to have access to records of Missourians who have a permit to carry a concealed weapon violates Missouri law and infringes on our Second Amendment rights.”
Schmitt referenced Missouri State Law 571.101.9(2) which states “Information retained in the concealed carry permit system under this subsection shall not be distributed to any federal, state, or private entities ….” The law was passed, with Schmitt’s involvement as a state senator, during the Obama administration when that administration also tried to get personal information on CCW holders…Read the Rest
