Interior Ministry put the ex-employee of Channel One Ovsyannikova on the wanted list

Russian Interior Ministry put ex-employee of Channel One Marina Ovsyannikova on the wanted list, according to the departmental database of wanted persons.

“The reason for the search: she is wanted under an article of the Criminal Code,” reads the response to the request. It is not specified what article it refers to.

In August, a court in Moscow placed Ovsyannikova under house arrest.

She was charged under Article 207.3(2)(e) of the Russian Criminal Code (public dissemination of deliberately false information about the use of the Russian Armed Forces), which carries a penalty of up to 10 years in prison, her lawyer Dmitry Zakhvatov told RIA Novosti.

According to him, the reason for the initiation of the case was a picket on Moscow’s Sofiyskaya embankment. Before that, Ovsyannikova had already been fined several times under an article of the Administrative Code on discrediting the Russian army.

In mid-March, Ovsyannikova, then working as the editor of the program Vremya, appeared live on air with a pacifist poster. Channel One started an investigation, and she was fired.

The German news paper Die Welt hired her for a few months after that. Vyacheslav Volodin, the speaker of the State Duma, called such employment a “handout” and advocated withdrawing the citizenship of those who make statements for “cookies from the State Department” and behave “mean and traitorous” to the country.
