Lindsey Graham Testifies to GA Grand Jury

  • Graham is under investigation for pressuring Georgia Secretary of State Ben Raffensberger to set aside legally cast ballots or look for other ways overturn the state’s election results.

South Carolina Senator Lindsey Graham (R), appeared before a Fulton County special Grand Jury on Tuesday, Nov 22, 2022 as part of an investigation into attempts to overturn Georgia’s 2020 election results.

The former critic of President Trump, who later turned close ally, was subpoenaed in July of 2022 and fought for months to avoid testifying. That battle came to a conclusion when the Supreme Court of the United States declined to overturn a lower court ruling compelling his appearance.

The Fulton County District Attorney leading the investigation, Fani Willis, sought Graham’s testimony in relation to phone calls he made to GA Secretary of State Ben Raffensberger after the 2020 election. In recordings obtained by the Congressional January 6th Committee, which is investigating events leading up to and after the January 6, 2021 attack on the Capitol Building, President Trump is heard pressuring Raffensberger to “find” enough votes in order to flip the state from Biden to Trump.

Raffensberger has publicly said that he was pressured by a number of high profile Trump allies, including Graham, to set aside Legally Cast Ballots or find other ways to overturn the state’s election results.

Graham is among a number of high profile figures who have been compelled to testify before the special grand jury, which anticipates wrapping its work before the end of the year. Others subpoenaed include Trump’s former personal attorney Rudy Giuliani, who faces disbarment over spreading election lies, and Lt. General Michael Flynn (Ret.), Trump’s former national security advisor, who twice pleaded guilty to felony charges of lying to the FBI before receiving a presidential pardon from Trump.

Willis has not yet revealed whether she will seek testimony from the former President. At the conclusion of the investigation, the special grand jury will make recommendations as to whether any indictments should be sought.
