Pro-Palestine Protest in Hyderabad Results in Student Arrests

Within five minutes after a pro-Palestine rally staged outside the Ambedkar Statue in Basheer Bagh, Hyderabad police apprehended a handful of students. The demonstration, organized by a group of female students, was conducted to express sympathy with the Palestinian people and to strongly condemn Israel’s actions in Gaza.

Protesters held posters bearing messages of solidarity for Palestine, including one that said, “Long live Palestine.” The protesters also yelled anti-Israeli chants.

The absence of formal authorisation for the protest justified the police’s quick action. As a result, the demonstrators, who continued to yell “down Israel,” were apprehended and quickly taken away in a Police van.

This is the first big pro-Palestine protest in Hyderabad since the start of the present crisis between Israel and Palestine, which began last week. It highlights the global aspect of the Israel-Palestine issue, with people all over the globe showing their support and concern in various forms of protest and advocacy.
