Allegations of Mismanagement in Welfare Schemes Implementation

Concerns are developing over the appropriate implementation of welfare schemes created in front of the elections, as allegations of commissions ranging from 10% to 30% in the distribution of financial aid to various parts of the population surface.

Despite Chief Minister KCR’s announcement of various welfare schemes such as Dalit Bandhu, Guruha Lakshmi, BC Bandhu, and Minority Assistance Scheme in order to secure the state’s third consecutive term, complaints indicate that some political leaders may be exploiting the situation for personal gain.

According to reports, political figures are allegedly collecting 10% to 30% commissions from the public in exchange for facilitating their access to the benefits of these programs.

According to Ahmed Ali, a social worker, eligible persons are voicing their dissatisfaction at being denied rightful access to these schemes. Instead, it is claimed that financial rewards are being steered towards followers of political parties, such as the BRS (Bharat Rashtra Samithi), or individuals recommended by important MLAs with a stake in these schemes.

The government has issued instructions indicating that the public should only be able to benefit from these initiatives through MLA recommendations. Around 14.91 lakh applications were received under the Gruhalakshmi scheme for the construction of 3.57 lakh dwellings across the state.

Similarly, preparations are in the works to choose 300 recipients per assembly constituency under the BC 100% subsidy scheme and 120 beneficiaries per assembly constituency under the Minority Assistance Scheme. However, more applications for both the minority and BC relief schemes have been submitted. This has resulted in individuals from economically poor backgrounds visiting MLA offices, increasing public displeasure.

The problem has triggered high-level probes and calls for government intervention to ensure that only those who are qualified for assistance receive them. Despite the good intentions of these assistance programs, charges of potential mismanagement have prompted concerns regarding equitable access and transparent delivery to truly deserving individuals.
