Thousands of unemployed youths protest in Patna

Thousands of unemployed youths took to the streets of Patna on Saturday to protest against the new domicile policy pertaining to the recruitment of 1.70 lakh teacher posts in Bihar.

The protesters assembled in the city’s busy Dak Bungalow Chowk, Income Tax Chowk, and JP Chowk and burnt the effigies of Chief Minister Nitish Kumar and Deputy Chief Minister Tejashwi Yadav.

They were outraged at the statement of the Bihar Education Minister who claimed that the students of the state were less talented than others in the subjects of math, physics, chemistry, and English.

They demanded a rollback of the decision and warned of continuing their protest if the state government fails to do so.

The protesters were backed by various teachers’ associations including the STET, CTET, as well as primary, secondary, and contract teachers.

“The Education Minister has put a question mark on the talent of Bihari students but the truth is the state government is not inviting jobs in subjects like math, physics, chemistry, and English,” said Nitesh Pandey, president of the Bihar primary teachers’ association.

“After removing the domicile policy, the state government has given up its anti-youth mindset. Other states have shut their doors for Bihari students and our state is shutting doors for us too.

The Bihar government has amended the recruitment policy in the last month. Our association will protest against this move until Nitish Kumar does not roll it back,” said Dipankar Gaurav, state president of the association.

The protesters are also deciding to gherao the Legislative Assembly during the monsoon session which will begin from July 10.
