Telangana: Autos in Rajanna Sircilla to have QR codes to help women in trouble

The Rajanna-Sircilla police department has developed a QR code to assist individuals in need, particularly women.

If an auto driver misbehaves with a woman or intentionally takes her on a different route, the victim can quickly scan the code on her mobile phone, and the information will be transmitted to the police control center.

The QR Code contains all of the information about the autorickshaw, including its registration number, driver’s name, and location, allowing authorities to track it down and save the victim. The police department has placed the QR code on approximately 3,000 autorickshaws throughout the area.

The code received an overwhelming response from the general public within 24 hours of its release. In addition, to increase public awareness of the QR code, the police department created a short film and distributed it via Twitter and WhatsApp groups of district residents.

After receiving information via a QR code supplied by a woman in trouble, a police squad tracked an automobile and was quickly apprehended by local cops.

SP Akhil Mahajan, the man behind the idea, shared the video on Twitter. KT Rama Rao, the state IT, Industries, and MAUD minister, praised the Sircilla police for their efforts to ensure commuter safety.

The SP is also gathering suggestions from citizens to improve policing. Akhil Mahajan has urged people to download the Abhaya Android App in order to get immediate assistance from police around the clock.

The SP said that all public transportation drivers (autos and taxis) have created digital copies of their documents, which have been uploaded to the QR code. Users are encouraged to file complaints with the police via phone calls or text messages, in addition to using the app, in order to receive prompt assistance.
