A two day ‘Herbal Exhibition’ held to mark World Unani Day in the city

To commemorate the birth anniversary of renowned Unani Scholar Hakim Ajmal Khan, ​​Al-Arif General Hospital and Unani Research Institute, Bandlaguda is organising a two day ‘Exhibition of Unani (Herbal) Single Drugs for Public Health’ at Salar Jung Museum, Hyderabad.

Remembering the services of Unani Scholar Hakim Ajmal Khan, his birthday anniversary on 11th February is being celebrated as World Unani Day every year. It is against this background, a two day herbal exhibition was planned​by the Al-Arif General Hospital and Unani Research Institute Bandlaguda,​ ​​that kicked started on Saturday at Western Hall, Salar Jung Museum in the city and will continue one more day on Sunday.

To spread awareness about the importance of herbs in treating various types of seasonal maladies, ailment and chronic diseases, around 300 herbal species were put on display at the exhibition along with their descriptions.

Accompanied with senior Unani doctors, research scholars, administrative officers, Students and Unani enthusiasts, the Commissioner Department of Ayurveda, Yoga and Naturopathy, Unani, Siddha and Homeopathy (AYUSH) M.Prashanti, IAS, cut the ribbon and get a first-hand view of the herbs put on display in the Museum arena.

Directors of Al-Arif General Hospital and Unani Research Institute, Bandlaguda Dr.Syed Tauheed Ahmed and Dr.Najeeb Khan explained to the commissioner how important the role the herbs play in protecting humans from different ​ types of seasonal ailments and chronic diseases.

Additional Commissioner Income Tax Department Government of India Dr.Wsaeem-ur-Rahman IRS, Additional Director AYUSH Dr. Vasant Rao, former Additional Director Mir Yousuf  Ali, Principal Nizamia Tibbi College Dr.Shazadi Sultana, Research Officer AYUSH (Retd.) Dr.Mohsin, Superintendent Al-Arif General Hospital and Unani Research Institute Dr.Saleemullah Khan, Trustee Mohd Samiuddin and Administrative Officer V.K.Moin were also presented the occasion.

Later, talking to media persons, the commissioner said she will roll out measures for similar events on behalf of the department of AYUSH to create awareness about the health benefits of herbs and their combating abilities in treating different ailments. “To realise this, the department will also revive the Unani Herbarium soon at Kattedha area and measures will be taken to make the facility fully functional to achieve its purpose,” she explained.
