The Telangana State Board of Intermediate Education (TS BIE) has decided to implement an onscreen digital evaluation system for the Intermediate Public Examinations beginning in March in order to make the process of evaluating answer scripts more seamless and error-free.

To begin, approximately 35 lakh answer scripts from first and second year IPE March 2023 languages, humanities, and vocational subjects will be digitally evaluated on a computer screen. On the basis of the success of languages and humanities subjects, it will be extended to science subjects over the next two academic years.

For the IPE 2024, the Board intends to expand digital Evaluation to 50% of science subjects, bringing the total number of answer scripts to around 45 lakh. The Board is considering implementing digital evaluation for all languages, humanities, science, and vocational subjects for both first and second year students in the IPE scheduled for March 2025, which will have approximately 55 lakh answer scripts.

“The onscreen digital evaluation system will increase the accuracy of the evaluation. We have decided to implement it for languages and arts subjects to begin with from this year,” a senior official was quoted as saying.

The onscreen evaluation system necessitates the scanning of all answer scripts before they are uploaded to a server.

The answer scripts can be accessed on a computer/laptop using an evaluator-provided application and a login ID and one-time password sent to the registered mobile number.

Evaluation can take place at the camps designated by the Board authorities and at the place of choice of evaluators, including at their homes or colleges. The Board will assign answer scripts at random, removing any opportunity for corporate and private junior colleges to influence the evaluators.

This system will help the Board to reduce the cost for evaluation of answer scripts by doing away with the TA and DA to evaluators as is done in the manual evaluation. The SBTET, BRAOU, and Osmania University are successfully implementing this system for the past few years,” an official explained.

Currently, after the exams are completed, the Board establishes evaluation camps across the various districts, where the answer scripts are transported for manual evaluation.
