To initiate action against illegal construction, govt will convene all-party meeting: Minister

The State government’s high-level committee formed to investigate illegal constructions in Hyderabad will meet on January 25 to discuss and take appropriate action.

Furthermore, the State government intends to hold an all-party meeting soon to try to obtain suggestions for action against illegal constructions of all kinds.

Animal Husbandry Minister Talasani Srinivas Yadav told mediapersons at the BRS Legislative Party here on Friday that all departments involved responded immediately after learning about the fire at a private store in the Nallagutta area on Wednesday.

He stated that the fire could not be put out immediately due to the presence of chemicals.

A NIT (National Institute of Technology) team is investigating the structural quality, and action will be taken based on the report.

According to the Minister, there are an estimated 25,000 such Illegal structures in Hyderabad. “After the reports are submitted, we will convene an all-party meeting, and the government will take the necessary action based on the suggestions,” he added.

Srinivas Yadav dismissed allegations made by BJP leaders, including Union Tourism Minister G Kishan Reddy, that the State government was legalising illegal structures for revenue while ignoring people’s well-being. Illegal structures, he said, cannot be removed overnight.

“The BJP leaders are making irresponsible statements for political mileage. The State High Court has issued stay orders on regularisation of buildings after the Telangana State was formed. As a result, no building has been regularised under the BRS regime,” he said.

He recalled that, unlike Kishan Reddy and other BJP leaders, the BRS never politicised tragedies such as the bridge collapse on the Morbi River in Gujarat, which caused the death of 180 persons.

He reminded that when migrant workers from Bihar died in an incident in Telangana, Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao personally handed over ex-gratia to the bereaved families.

He said that, while the Telangana government spent Rs 65,000 crore on development projects in Hyderabad over the last eight years, neither the BJP nor Kishan Reddy contributed any funds in this regard.

MLA Mutha Gopal and Rajya Sabha member Badugula Lingaiah Yadav were also present.
