NTR Gardens, Lumbini Park set to receive major transformation

There will be enormous changes in the design and recreational facilities of two of the most popular public spaces in the city – the NTR Gardens and Lumbini Park. Both are located near the picturesque Hussain Sagar.

To execute the project, the Hyderabad Metropolitan Development Authority (HMDA) has invited proposals from landscape architects. Both parks will be designed by the architect, and the architect will be responsible for monitoring the implementation of the plan.

“The idea is to develop a master plan for the parks and shortlist the themes by considering the existing infrastructure and upcoming development in the area of these lung spaces. The architect will be informed about the Telangana Martyrs Memorial, the new Secretariat, Ambedkar Memorial Park, etc., that are located around the parks in order to redesign them accordingly,” an HMDA official said.

There would be no demolition of existing parks, as the makeover would be accomplished by integrating the existing infrastructure.

By integrating the existing infrastructure and amenities in these parks, a new design, Recreational Facilities, illumination, and greenery will emerge, he said.

A revolving tower is also being proposed at NTR Gardens, and tenders are being invited for the installation/operation of a Machan Tree, toy train, and adventure house. Lumbini Park invited tenders for the operation/maintenance of the revolving tower and canteen.

Some of the existing recreational facilities, like the Machan Tree in NTR Gardens and the revolving tower in Lumbini Park, will either be spruced up or newly constructed according to the requirements of the newly designed parks, HMDA officials said.

It was intended to enhance recreational facilities in these popular parks to meet the needs of children and people of all ages.

The two locations were built more than 20 years ago, and since then no changes have been contemplated to make them more attractive.
