More stores to be opened under Tolichowki flyover in Hyderabad

With rising encroachment under the Tolichowki flyover and to secure a livelihood for roadside sellers, the Municipal Administration and Urban Development (MAUD) department planning to build 35 new shops beneath the flyover as part of a modern market. There are already ten stores currently. Throughout the city, there are about 120 vending zones.

There is also a demand for more to be established, even as encroachment under some city flyovers grows. There are many encroachments under the Tolichowki flyover that generate traffic congestion. However, the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation has constructed a few shops; but more shops are required. Karwan MLA Kausar Mohiuddin advocated for more stores to MA&UD.

Arvind Kumar, Principal Secretary of the Department, sanctioned 35 extra shops under the flyover to ensure the livelihood of Tolichowki’s street vendors. A meeting was recently held between AIMIM floor leader Akbaruddin Owaisi and Arvind Kumar. They talked about development projects in the Old City as well as the Karwan constituency. They considered the concept of constructing an ‘Overhead Skyway Cable Car’ from the Qutub Shahi tomb to Golconda Fort in order to increase the number of tourists visiting these heritage sites. According to the MLA, the Tourism Department has already granted authorization to recruit a consultant with technical knowledge to prepare a feasibility report and locations to be affected by the proposed project. He asked for a budget for the project’s feasibility study.

They also talked about a major road-widening project in the city. As part of the Road Development Plan (RDP), the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation approved a long-pending road widening project in Tolichowki, including the project at 7-Tombs Roads, MD Lines, and Hakeempet-Paramount Colony, with compensation of Rs 240 crore.
