“Minor” blast in Central Delhi; 1.4kms away from PM, President meet site

In a shocking incident, a bomb has blasted near the Israeli Embassy in the heart of Delhi, on the Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam road. The officials have said a “very low intensity” IED (improvised explosive device) was exploded at around 6.45 pm on Friday evening.

Police have stated that there has been no loss of lives or property except for the shattered glasses of the vehicles parked nearby.

Just 1.4 km away, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, President Ram Nath Kovind and other senior officials of the Centre were present for the Beating the Retreat ceremony at the Vijaya Chowk, situated in Central Delhi.

The bomb was left wrapped in a plastic bag on the pavement outside the Jindal House, located metres away from the Israeli embassy.

As such, ambulances, fire brigades, intelligence cell officials and other Delhi Police associates are on the spot to secure the area by cordoning it.

The entire area is now deployed with heavy security and police forces while many Delhi Police barricades have been erected at both ends of the street.

This explosion comes days Union Minister Amit Shah had a meeting with the national capital’s Commissioner of Police and heads of different intelligence agencies to converse about the security and its positioning in Delhi after the tractor rally chaos of January 26th when things turned violent with the Police entering the field on witnessing the drift in the designated route and timing of the procession.

Following this meet, additional Paramilitary Forces were deployed for better protection. 15 firms of paramilitary forces along with 10 of CRPF were brought in while 5 others were put on standby, according to a senior official quoted by ANI.

This blast is the second of its kind after the 2012’s bombing where a motorcyclist at a traffic junction put a “sticky bomb” on a vehicle of the Israel embassyIt took place only 300 metres away from the PM’s official home.

Today’s blast is even more shocking and concerning as the incident occurred despite posting of security forces in the city and even after a similar event had happened in the past.

Intelligence agencies and police are investigating the case presently.
