Newly Opened Theatres in Baramulla And Handwara In Kashmir Set To Start With Shah Rukh Khan’s Pathaan as First Film

Kashmir has served as a captivating backdrop for numerous films over the years. Unfortunately, the emergence of militancy in 1990 led to the closure of theaters in the region. However, there was a positive development last year when Inox launched the inaugural multiplex in Srinagar on September 20. Concurrently, on September 18, 2022, Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha inaugurated Multipurpose Cinema Halls in Pulwama and Shopian districts. These halls are being operated by a company called Jadooz.

On July 14, Manoj Sinha carried out the inauguration of two additional Multipurpose Cinema Halls, situated in Baramulla and Handwara. These newly established theaters, much like the ones in Pulwama and Shopian, will be managed by Jadooz and will offer amenities such as a cafe, conference rooms, and seminar facilities. According to available information, both theaters have a seating capacity of 100. Excitingly, it has been revealed that the upcoming film Pathaan featuring Shah Rukh Khan will be the inaugural screening in these two newly opened theaters.

The recently released videos showcase Manoj Sinha inaugurating the Baramulla theatre, which has been established within the premises of the Sherwani Community Hall. In the footage, one can observe the presence of the Pathaan movie poster during the theatre’s inauguration. Notably, alongside Pathaan, the posters of Shah Rukh Khan’s upcoming film, Jawan, and Sunny Deol’s highly anticipated Gadar 2 are also displayed, suggesting that these much-awaited movies will also be screened in these cinema halls.

New Chapter For Cinema In Kashmir

Pathaan, starring Shah Rukh Khan, Deepika Padukone, and John Abraham, has achieved remarkable success at the box office. It holds the distinction of being the highest-grossing Bollywood film to date, accumulating over Rs. 500 crores in domestic earnings and nearly Rs. 1000 crores globally.

The government’s motive for establishing cinema halls in Kashmir is to broaden the range of entertainment options available in the state and symbolize a sense of normalcy following the revocation of Article 370 in August 2019.

Last year marked a significant milestone as S S Rajamouli’s film RRR (2022) became the first movie to be screened in Kashmir in almost thirty years, specifically in the theaters of Pulwama and Shopian. This groundbreaking event was followed by the screening of Aamir Khan’s Laal Singh Chaddha (2022) on the same day when Inox Srinagar was inaugurated.
