Mile of bespoke wool bunting to adorn Saville Row for King’s Coronation

It is a personal initiative of the monarch, launched to help Wool growers throughout the Commonwealth to challenge the rise of toxic synthetic fibres in the fashion industry and the built environment.

It is estimated that over 15 miles of wool fabric will be used across the Coronation processions, when taking into account the Military Uniforms, the cassocks and robes of the clergy, and the morning suits worn by the guests.

“Wool will be used in virtually every part of the Coronation, from beginning to end,” said Sir Nicholas.

He added that the cause of promoting the fibre was “very close to the King’s heart”, adding that he measures this “by the number of times he comes to campaign for wool events”.

“He’s personally been to more than 40, in fact, it’s nearly 50 now, and every time he’s in Australia, he goes and flies and sees sheep farmers and the same in New Zealand,” he said.

The then Prince of Wales told a Campaign for Wool documentary last year: “It really is of the greatest importance that we educate and inform the next generation of makers and consumers of the global benefits of using natural and sustainable resources, including wool, which as a longevity fibre is then followed by its natural return to the soil.”

The bunting uses Melton wool from AW Hainsworth, a fabric historically used in the iconic red coat of military uniforms.
