Why Dodge Demon’s sunroof is a nearly $10K option

The 2023 Dodge Challenger Srt Demon 170 is so focused on performance that a sunroof doesn’t jibe with the muscle car’s spirit.

Those looking to throw down $98,261 — and likely much more after markups — for a Demon 170 will have to pay a $9,995 premium to get a sunroof in their 1,025-hp speedster. That’s nearly $9,000 more than a sunroof in the Challenger’s Hellcat variant.

Why the exorbitant price bump?

The edgy brand shared its reasoning with auto website Jalopnik in true Dodge fashion.

“The 2023 Dodge Challenger Srt Demon 170 is the most powerful muscle car in the world and is designed for performance at its core,” the brand said. “A sunroof goes against the ethos of the vehicle, but we are making it available for customers who truly desire one. For those customers choosing a sunroof, it will not come cheap.”

That ethos Dodge is talking about revolves around pushing the envelope of what a muscle car can do straight from the factory.

It launches from 0 to 60 mph in 1.66 seconds, and runs the quarter-mile in a National Hot Rod Association-certified 8.91 seconds at 151.17 mph. The Demon 170 is the quickest vehicle Dodge has produced in its history.

With a vehicle that fast, occupants won’t be able to look up and watch the clouds zip past in the sunroof. They’ll be stuck to their seats.
