The Oregon Health Authority on Friday announced 21 COVID-19 deaths and 2,113 new cases.

The state’s report came after the Western States Scientific Safety Review Workgroup completed a review of the federal process and recommended a booster dose of the Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine at least six months after their primary vaccination series for people older than 65 and people who fall into the high-risk populations.

The state said booster shots for older Oregonians and those with underlying medical conditions, such as diabetes or chronic lung conditions, should be available as early as Friday night.

“Everyone eligible who wants a booster will get one, and I’m committed to ensuring our most vulnerable Oregonians are protected from COVID-19, including those who are at higher risk due to systemic health and social inequities,” Gov. Kate Brown said in a statement. “I’d like to thank Oregonians for their patience as boosters become available while our hospitals and health care workers continue to respond to the ongoing Delta surge.”

As of Friday, Oregon reported 2,488,494 people fully vaccinated and 233,052 people are partially vaccinated.

The state also released a COVID-19 forecast, showing a slowdown in daily cases and hospitalizations through mid-October. The report estimates an average of 1,480 daily cases and 81 hospitalizations for the two-week period between Sept. 29 and Oct. 12, based on data of previous levels of transmission.

Who died: Oregon’s 3,662nd death is a 67-year-old Douglas County man who tested positive Sept. 18 and Died Sept. 21 at his residence.

The 3,663rd fatality is a 45-year-old Douglas County woman from who tested positive Sept.12 and died Sept. 23 at Oregon Health and Science University Hospital.

Oregon’s 3,664th death is a 94-year-old Douglas County woman who tested positive Sept. 1 and died Sept. 9 at her residence.

The 3,665th death is an 86-year-old Douglas County woman who tested positive Aug. 30 and died Sept. 17 at her residence.

Oregon’s 3,666th death is an 89-year-old Douglas County man who tested positive Aug. 2 and died Sept. 4 at his residence.

Oregon’s 3,672nd death is a 63-year-old Multnomah County woman who tested positive Sept. 14 and died Sept. 18 at Adventist Health Portland.

The 3,673rd fatality is a 63-year-old Lane County woman who tested positive Sept. 14 and died Sept. 22 PeaceHealth Sacred Heart Medical Center at Riverbend.

Oregon’s 3,674th death is a 60-year-old Lane County man who tested positive Sept. 12 and died Sept. 11 at McKenzie-Willamette Medical Center.

The 3,675th fatality is a 73-year-old Josephine County woman who tested positive Sept. 15 and died Sept. 22 at Asante Three Rivers Medical Center.

Oregon’s 3,676th death is a 67-year-old Josephine County woman who tested positive Aug. 13 and died Sept. 18 at Asante Rogue Regional Medical Center.

The 3,677th fatality is a 58-year-old Jackson County man who tested positive Aug. 22 and died Sept. 17 at Providence Medford Medical Center.

Oregon’s 3,678th death is a 58-year-old Jackson County man who tested positive Aug. 17 and died Sept. 22 at Asante Rogue Regional Medical Center.

The 3,679th fatality is an 85-year-old Yamhill County man who tested positive Sept. 9 and died Sept. 22 at Willamette Valley Medical Center.

Oregon’s 3,680th death is a 46-year-old Yamhill County woman who tested positive Aug. 26 and died Sept. 22 at Willamette Valley Medical Center.

The 3,681st fatality is a 30-year-old Washington County man who tested positive Sept. 10 and died Sept. 22 at his residence.

Oregon’s 3,682nd death is a 50-year-old Washington County woman who tested positive Aug. 30 and died Sept. 22 at McKenzie-Willamette Medical Center.

Each person had underlying health conditions or state officials were determining if the person had underlying conditions.

Hospitalizations: 855 people with confirmed cases of COVID-19 are hospitalized, down 30 from Thursday. That includes 268 people in intensive care, down five from Thursday.

Vaccines: Oregon reported 9,167 newly administered doses, which includes 3,810 administered Thursday and the remainder from previous days.

Since it began: Oregon has reported 320,990 confirmed or presumed infections and 3,682 deaths, among the lowest per capita numbers in the nation. To date, the state has reported 5,055,080 vaccine doses administered, fully vaccinating 2,488,494 people and partially vaccinating 233,052 people.
