- Opposition to PM Modi became heavy: After three ministers in Maldives, now the president's chair is in danger

- Democrat Party Leader Former President Nasheed Seeks Support of Pro-India Manata MDP Party for No-Confidence Motion

- 'India is like a 911 call to us in times of trouble': Former Defense Minister of Maldives

Male: Prime Minister Narendra Modi's visit to Lakshadweep has created many problems for the new government of Maldives. After PM Modi urged Indians to visit Lakshadweep, three Maldivian ministers made statements insulting Prime Minister Modi and India, following which the controversy that started has not subsided even after the expulsion of the three ministers. President Mohammad Muizzou's chair is now under threat amid reports that Indian businessmen have also started boycotting the Maldives after Indians launched a boycott Maldives campaign. The opposition is preparing to move a no-confidence motion against President Muizzoo, who has been constantly spewing venom against India in the Maldives.

Leaders of the ruling party in the Maldives have faced a heavy burden of making insulting statements against Prime Minister Narendra Modi and India. The Maldivian government, outraged when Indians started a 'Boycott Maldives' campaign for insulting India and PM Modi, expelled three ministers with immediate effect. But now the new government of Maldives is at risk. Amidst the 'Boycott Maldives' campaign, opposition leaders in the Maldives are now calling for a no-confidence motion against their new president, Mohamed Moizzou.

In fact, the leader of the People's National Congress, Mohammad Muizzou, became the president in November 2023 by running an anti-India campaign in the Maldives, which has an important position in the world's busiest commercial sea route from the Indian Ocean to the Red Sea. In India's neighboring country in South Asia, Moizzou, who has a pro-China attitude, started showing eyes to India as soon as he became the president. Amidst this whole incident, Prime Minister Narendra Modi appealed to Indians traveling to Lakshadweep islands to visit Lakshadweep. The leaders of the ruling party considered this appeal of PM Modi as anti-Maldives and made comments insulting India and PM Modi. Enraged Indians started the 'Boycott Maldives' campaign and canceled thousands of hotel bookings and flights in just three days. The government of India, shocked by this backlash, expelled the three ministers who insulted India and PM Modi with immediate effect. However, the opposition is now preparing to move a no-confidence motion against President Moizzou.

The Democrat Party MP and former President Mohammad Nasheed wrote on 'X', We at The Democrat are dedicated to maintaining the stability of the country's foreign policy and preventing it from isolating any neighboring country. Are you ready to take all necessary steps to remove President Mohamed Muizzou from power? Is the Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) ready to move a no-confidence motion? Former president of MDP Ibrahim Solih is believed to be pro-India.

Meanwhile, former Defense Minister of Maldives Maria Ahmad Didi says that the current government lacks foresight. Our country is very small. But our conservation concerns are the same. We both share the same ideology of democracy and human rights. Not only that but India is building capacity in the defense sector and providing equipment and efforts to make us more capable. We have age-old relations with India. India has always been like a 911 call to us in times of disaster. India has been there to help us whenever we call.

On the other hand, Maldives' top tourism body has criticized its own ministers for insulting India and PM Modi. The Maldives Association of Tourism Industry (MATI) submitted that the organization strongly criticized the Prime Minister of India as well as several Deputy Ministers of Maldives for making statements insulting the people of India. India is contributing significantly to the tourism industry of Maldives. India has helped us the most after the corona epidemic.

As relations with India deteriorate, Maldives surrenders to China

Maldives President Moizzou urges China to send tourists

- Moizzou broke the tradition of being the first to visit India after becoming president, proposing a trip this month

The dispute between India and Maldives is escalating. Breaking the tradition of being the first to visit India after becoming the president at such a time, the President of Maldives, Mohammad Moizzou, has arrived in the southern Chinese port city on a week-long visit to China. In the wake of India's Boycott Maldives campaign, Moizzou has urged China to send more tourists to the Maldives.

Maldives President Mohamed Moizzou and his delegation are currently on a week-long visit to China. In this trip, he will meet Chinese President Xi Jinping and Prime Minister Li Qiang. Both the countries will agree on areas ranging from infrastructure to tourism. After the 'India Out' campaign, Mohammed Moizzou, who became president in November 2023, held talks with Chinese investors at the 'Invest Maldives' forum in the southern Chinese port city of Fujian province. With this, President Moizzou and his delegation requested China to send its tourists to the Maldives. Moizhu further described China as his closest ally and partner country.

Amidst the controversy with India, there is a possibility that the President of Maldives Moizzu will visit India this month itself. The Government of Maldives has already proposed the visit of President Mohammad Muizzou to India in January. After becoming president in November 2021, Mohammad Muizzu has traveled to Turkey, the United Arab Emirates and is currently on a trip to China. However, he broke the tradition of former Maldives presidents being the first to visit India. On the other hand, it has been claimed by the ministers of the new government that this tour of Muizzu government was proposed in November itself. It has nothing to do with the current controversy. On the other hand, some sources say that there was only verbal talk from Maldives earlier for the visit.

Warplanes will be deployed to monitor the Arabian Sea

A new airport will be built at Minicoy Island in Lakshadweep

- The new airport will be capable of handling commercial aircraft as well as Air Force fighter jets

After straining relations with Maldives, India has now made elaborate plans to develop Lakshadweep. The government will build a new airport on the Minicoy island group. The airport will be capable of handling fighter jets in addition to commercial aircraft.

Like the Maldives, the islands of Lakshadweep are also of special importance in the commercial sea routes of the Indian Ocean and the Arabian Sea. Until now, the government has depended on the Maldives to monitor global trade routes. But now India has prepared to build an airport on the islands of Lakshadweep. The airfield will be capable of operating fighter jets and military aircrafts in addition to commercial aircraft. It is also very important from a military point of view. So it will be easier to monitor the Arabian Sea, and also the Indian Ocean.

After PM Modi's visit to Lakshadweep and campaign to boycott Maldives, Indian tourists have been attracted to the islands in South India. The Indian Coast Guard was the first to propose the development of the Lakshadweep and Minicoy groups. In this way, India will keep an eye on the Arabian Sea and the Indian Ocean on the one hand and on the other hand, developing Lakshadweep as a tourist destination will also confirm the economy of the Union Territory.
