Aksai Chin: Pakistan became a new country in 1947 after separating from India. At this time, some princely states like Jammu-Kashmir, Hyderabad, Junagadh also remained independent. Among them, on 22 October 1947, the Pakistani army attacked Jammu and Kashmir. To prevent this attack, Maharaja Hari Singh of Kashmir allowed the Indian Army to enter Jammu and Kashmir and also agreed to merge Jammu and Kashmir into India.
What is Aksai China?
By the time the Indian Army took action, Pakistan had occupied some parts of Kashmir. Which is today known as PoK i.e. Pakistan Occupied Kashmir. In which in 1963 under an agreement, Pakistan gave some part of PoK to China. Which is now known as Aksai China.
How far is it to Aksai China ?
Aksai China is located at a distance of 1604 km from India. In 1963, under an agreement, Pakistan handed over 5180 square kilometers of Pakistan occupied Kashmir to China. The area is located under the Kunlun Mountains in the northwest of the Tibetan Plateau.
India considers this agreement illegal
Although Pakistan has handed over 5180 square kilometers of Pakistan Occupied Kashmir to China, India considers this agreement illegal. India has repeatedly clarified to China regarding the 38,000 square kilometer area of Aksai China that the area does not belong to China. But still China is occupying that area. Also, both India and China have not been able to find a solution to this dispute so far.
