India to cooperate in Nijjar murder case: US pressure

- The time of agenda-driven countries is over, it is wrong to see political gain in fighting terrorism: Jaishankar

Colombo/New Delhi: Against Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau's allegations of India's involvement in the killing of Khalistani terrorist Hardeep Singh Nijjar, India has accused Canada of being a haven for terrorists. However, the US has once again pressed India to cooperate with Canada in the investigation of the Nijjar murder case. Meanwhile, India's Foreign Minister Subramaniam Jaishankar took the agenda-driven nations at the United Nations General Assembly and said that their days are over.

America has once again supported Canada on the issue of investigation into the killing of Niger. The US State Department said on Tuesday that India should cooperate with Canada's investigation into the murder of Sikh separatist Hardeep Singh Nijjar and bring the accused to justice. We have publicly and privately urged the Indian government to cooperate with Canadian investigators, said US State Department spokesman Matthew Miller.

Meanwhile, from the platform of the United Nations General Assembly, India's Foreign Minister Subramaniam Jaishankar said that there was a time when some countries fixed the agenda and hoped that the rest of the countries would follow their agenda. But now their days are over. The New Delhi summit confirms that only diplomacy and dialogue are effective solutions. The international system is diverse and very complex. We should respect that.

He added that the world is going through extraordinary times of great upheaval. Coming out of the era of group absolutism, we have now developed the concept of 'friend of the world'. India's vision of One Earth, One Family, One Future seeks to focus not only on the narrow interests of a few countries but on the core concerns of many nations.

On Canada's allegations on the killing of Niger, Jaishankar said that political convenience cannot be the basis of any country's reaction against terrorism or radicalism. He stressed the need to respect territorial integrity. He added that we have developed partnership with 75 countries. We are also responding first in disaster and emergency situations.

Meanwhile, Sikhs for Justice, a Sikh organization in Canada, called on Sikhs to protest outside the Indian embassy in Ottawa and Vancouver to protest the killing of Hardeep Singh Nijjar. The director of the group, Jatinder Singh, claimed that around 150 Sikhs would join the demonstrations. But according to sources, the presence of Sikhs in these demonstrations was negligible. A handful of Sikhs gathered outside the Indian embassy and raised anti-India slogans.

Sri Lankan Foreign Minister Ali Sabri, who arrived in New York to attend the United Nations General Assembly, supported India in the India-Canada dispute and said that some terrorists have found a safe haven in Canada. It is not appropriate to make any insulting allegations against the Prime Minister of Canada without any evidence. We were also accused of genocide, which were false. Everyone knows that there was no genocide in our country.
