Pakistan's former PM Imran Khan accused of inciting violence, may be sentenced to death!

Former Pakistani Prime Minister Imran Khan has been charged with 'criminal conspiracy' in the May 9 violence, which carries a maximum penalty of death. News agency PTI quoted a senior police officer in Punjab (Pakistan) as saying that Imran Khan has been accused of conspiring to attack military bases and 'criminal conspiracy' to incite people to violence.

What was the charge on Imran Khan?

It is to be mentioned that Imran Khan was arrested on May 9 in a corruption case. After the arrest, reports of violent incidents in Pakistan surfaced. In addition to the army headquarters in Rawalpindi, more than a dozen government buildings were torched during the violence, while several leaders and activists, including Imran Khan and his party Tehreek-e-Insaf, have been accused of attacking the Lahore Corps Commander's House and Askari Tower.

9 more crimes will be filed against Imran

Senior Investigating Officer of Lahore Police Anush Masood said that Imran Khan, other PTI leaders and activists have been accused of 'criminal conspiracy' in inciting supporters to attack the army and state buildings on May 9. Masood said that, apart from Section 120-B, cases of nine other offenses related to inciting violence, inciting rebellion and attempting to wage war against Pakistan will be filed against Imran and others.

Imran Khan was arrested 2 times

It is to be mentioned that Imran Khan is confined in Atta Jail of Punjab province from August 5-2023. Imran was arrested in the Toshakha case and then Khan was sentenced to 3 years in jail. After a few days in this matter, Khan got bail. However, Khan was later arrested again in the Cipher matter under the Official Secrets Act. After the arrest in this matter, Imran has knocked on the door of Islamabad High Court for bail.

What is a cipher case?

Cipher matter concerns diplomatic documents. These documents have allegedly disappeared from Imran Khan. Imran Khan alleged that he has been threatened by the US to oust him from power.
