Modi and Biden will further strengthen Indo-US defense ties

New Delhi: US President Joe Biden arrived in Delhi on Friday to attend the G-20 Summit. On reaching Delhi, he directly held a bilateral meeting with PM Modi. Both the leaders emphasized on deepening the bilateral defense partnership between India and the US. On the other hand, President Biden welcomed India's proposal to buy 31 drones and jointly develop jet engines. On the other hand, PM Modi also held bilateral discussions with the Prime Ministers of Bangladesh and Mauritius.

US President Joe Biden was received by Cabinet Minister VK Singh at the Delhi airport on Friday. Biden then met US Ambassador to India Eric Garcetti and his daughter Maya. Biden is the 8th US President to come to India. Biden reached Prime Minister Narendra Modi's residence directly from the Delhi airport, where the two leaders held a bilateral meeting. In the meeting which lasted for about 50 minutes, the two leaders discussed issues including India's G-20 presidency, cooperation in nuclear energy, emerging technologies like 6-G and artificial intelligence and ways of structural restructuring of multilateral development banks.

Regarding the meeting between President Biden and PM Modi, the PMO said that many important issues were discussed between the two leaders. Both the leaders emphasized on further strengthening India-US relations. Biden welcomed India's Defense Ministry's request letter to buy 31 drones from the US.

After the meeting with Biden, PM Modi said on social media, I am happy to receive President Biden on 7 Lok Kalyan Marg. Our visit was very worthwhile. We discussed many issues. Cooperation between the two countries will be increased on economic issues. Also, contact between the people of both the countries will also increase.

The two leaders issued a joint statement after the Indo-US bilateral meeting.

Biden said that India's chairmanship of the G20 shows how this forum can deliver important results. On the other hand, Modi-Biden expressed their commitment to G20 and expressed confidence that this summit will succeed in its objectives.

Both Modi-Biden said that their governments will continue to work on the Indo-US strategic partnership. At the same time, both emphasized the Quad organization in supporting an independent, free, inclusive and flexible Indo-Pacific.

Both the leaders expressed confidence that we will work together to develop the semiconductor supply chain globally. Also, India and America will increase their partnership in the defense sector.

In a joint statement, the two leaders welcomed the commencement of negotiations and the completion of the congressional notification process for commercial agreements between GE Aerospace and Hindustan Aeronautical Limited for the production of GE F-414 jet engines in India.

Meanwhile, Prime Minister Narendra Modi held bilateral talks with Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and Mauritius Prime Minister Pravind Jugnath on Friday. Sheikh Hasina and Pravind Jugnath have arrived in Delhi to attend the G-20 summit on Friday. PM Modi will hold approximately 15 bilateral meetings in three days. PM Modi expressed his determination with the Prime Ministers of Bangladesh and Mauritius to take the relations between the two countries further.
