Resentment against Pakistan is growing among the millions of Shia Muslims living in Pakistan-occupied Gilgit Baltistan. The situation here has become explosive, and the Pakistani government and army have collapsed as Shia Muslims are now openly talking about joining India.
Pakistan is now sending religious leaders for damage control. Gilgit Baltistan has a population of 2 million and eight million Shia Muslims. This community is now adopting Bagawati Valam.
The Shia community alleges that the Pakistani army is persecuting us. After 1947, the Shias are being driven away and the Sunni Muslims are being settled. Due to this, the once majority Shia has become a minority here.

However, recently Shia cleric Agha Baqir Al Hussaini has sparked public outrage after his arrest for commenting on religious blasphemy laws. 20000 additional army personnel have been deployed here.
The people of Shia community are openly challenging the Pakistani government to open the Karakoram highway..we want to join India. Seeing the tenacity of the Shias, the Pakistan Army has sent four clerics to Gilgit Baltistan.
