Hearing on reintroduction of Article 370 in Jammu and Kashmir complete, SC reserves decision

The ongoing hearing in the Supreme Court regarding Article-370 has been completed. The Supreme Court has reserved its decision. It is important that hearings were going on for the past several days on the petitions challenging the decision to remove Article 370 from Jammu and Kashmir in the Supreme Court.

The Supreme Court today reserved its verdict on a batch of petitions challenging the abrogation of Article 370 of the Constitution, which grants special status to the state of Jammu and Kashmir. A five-judge bench of the Supreme Court reserved its order after a 16-day marathon hearing.

Since August, a bench of Chief Justice of India DY Chandrachud and Justices Sanjay Kishan Kaul, Sanjiv Khanna, BR Gavai and Suryakant heard petitions challenging the central government's 2019 decision to abrogate Article 370.

What does Article 370 say?

Article 370 is mentioned in Part-21 of the Constitution of India. According to the provision made in this article, Jammu and Kashmir was given the status of a special state. The status of a special state, due to which the state government of Jammu and Kashmir could make laws separately for itself and also had the power not to apply the laws made by the Government of India in its own state. However, now, Article 370 has been removed from Jammu and Kashmir and Jammu Kashmir has been given the status of Union Territory.
