The Indian Air Force is considering ordering 100 more indigenously developed LCA Tejas Mark-1A jet aircraft for more power. A contract worth 48 thousand crore rupees for 83 such fighter jets has already been signed two years ago. The LCA Tejas Mark-1A will come with several additional improvements over the current variant.

Plans to order 100 more LCA Tejas Mark-1A

Indian Air Force will become stronger in coming times. The Indian Air Force is planning to order 100 more LCA Tejas Mark-1A jet aircraft to Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL). Two years ago, a deal worth Rs 48,000 crore was also signed for the purchase of 83 such fighter aircraft in February 2021. This will further strengthen the indigenous aerospace sector towards a self-reliant India. A contract for 83 LCA Tejas Mark-1A jets was signed in February 2021. With that order, the total number of LCA variants now stands at 123.

The LCA Tejas Mk-1A will come with several additional upgrades

The 40 LCA Mark-1s already ordered by the IAF are in Initial Operational Clearance (IOC) and more advanced Final Operational Clearance (FOC) configurations. The LCA Tejas Mark-1A will come with several additional improvements over the current variant. This will make it the most advanced LCA variant ever. The LCA Tejas MK-1A aircraft has more advanced avionics and radar than the initial 40 LCAs supplied to the Air Force. The new LCA Mark1As will be 65 to 70 percent indigenous. According to reports, the first LCA MK-1 aircraft will be delivered in February 2024, with the remaining aircraft to be delivered by 2029. LCA MK-1 aircraft are expected to be deployed in the border area. The MK-1 aircraft will come with a digital radar warning receiver, an external self-defense jammer pod, better radar, advanced beyond-visual-range (BVR) missiles and notably better maintenance.
