9/11 attack accused will not be sentenced to death? Resentment among the relatives of the deceased

Washington, Dt. August 27, 2023

The terrorist attack on New York on September 11, 2001 shook America. About 3000 people were killed in this attack. It took years for America to recover from its shock.

Now there are reports that the death sentence of the accused who plotted the terror attack may be waived. The families of those who were killed in the attack are very angry about it. Many people are feeling cheated.

A settlement has been reached between the defense side and the government side in this case. As a result, if the mastermind of the terrorist attack, Khalid Sheikh Mohammed, and four other accused confess their crime, they will not be given the death penalty in return. A letter informing the relatives of those killed in the attack has been written by the Pentagon, the US Department of Defense. Many people are upset after that.

One of these, Christine Britweiser, has expressed her displeasure and said, I am very sad. I thought I was living in a country where there was rule of law but in reality it was not. Christine's husband was killed in the attack.

Similarly, Brad Blackman, who lost his nephew, also said that the American government had promised me that the terrorists would get severe punishment and we were also hoping for that.

On the other hand, many believe that due to this settlement, the trial will end without a case and the truth of the September 11 terrorist attacks will never come out.

Some are favoring compromise. They argue that because of the delay in the execution of these cases every year, the relatives of many victims are likely to die without seeing the accused get punished. It may also happen that the accused die unpunished because of the deal. At least the deal won't delay their punishment.

A military tribunal is hearing five persons guilty of terror attacks. However, the trial is getting delayed. Because the accused says that evidence was collected by CIA by torturing us.

The lawyer of one of the accused says that my client is ready to serve a long sentence in prison but in exchange he is given medical treatment and he is not sentenced to death.
