After the Taliban came to power, the water dispute between Afghanistan and Iran has created a situation where war can flare up at any time.

According to the available details, there is a dispute between the two countries regarding the water of the Helmand River, which serves as the border between Afghanistan and Iran. This river is one thousand kilometers long. It flows from the east of Afghanistan to Iran.

In 1950, Afghanistan built two big dams on it. Due to which the water received by Iran was reduced. An agreement was reached in 1973 after acrimony in relations between the two countries. According to which Afghanistan agreed to give 85 million cubic tons of water to Iran every year. However, this agreement has never been properly implemented and the two countries are constantly at odds.

After the Taliban came to power, the issue of water sharing seems to be heading for war. Iran says that after the Taliban seized power, the water available to Iran has decreased more. Millions of people in Iran depend on the water of this river. On the other hand, due to the effects of global warming and drought-like conditions, water in the Helmand river has decreased, so the need for water has also increased for Afghanistan.

In May, Iran's President Ibrahim Reisi warned Afghanistan that if Afghanistan does not comply with the water sharing agreement, it will have to be prepared to suffer severe consequences. In response, the Taliban mocked this statement and sent a container of 20 liters of water to Iran.

After that, two Iranian guards and a Taliban fighter were killed in a clash between the Taliban and the Iranian army on the border due to the growing tension between the two countries. Now the Taliban has sent thousands of soldiers and suicide bombers near the Iranian border and sources say that the Taliban is ready for war with Iran at any time.
