Spending 1100 crores on advertising and no money for rail projects?

New Delhi ,dt. 24

A rapid rail scheme has been launched to connect Delhi with its surrounding cities. For this project, along with the central government, funds are also to be given to the states through which this train will pass. For this, the Delhi Government was told to provide funds for this project.

However, in the last hearing, the Delhi government showed its inability to provide funds for the project. Now the Supreme Court has directed the Delhi government to provide Rs 415 crore for this project within two months.

In the last hearing, the Delhi government expressed its inability to fund the Regional Rapid Transit System due to lack of funds. A bench of Justice SK Kaul and Justice Sudhanshu Dhulia said that if the Delhi government can spend Rs 1,100 crore on advertising in the last three financial years, it can also contribute to infrastructure projects.

Senior advocate Abhishek Manu Singhvi, appearing for the Delhi government, assured the bench that the regional rapid transit system would be paid for but the payment should be allowed in installments.

He further said that the government is facing difficulty in raising funds after the GST compensation program ends in June , 2022.
