Rains wreak havoc in North India, heavy loss in Punjab-Haryana, situation in Delhi


Heavy rains in North India have caused desolation in Punjab and Haryana. Around 2.40 lakh hectares of paddy crops have been damaged due to floods in Punjab, while on the other hand, 13 districts of Haryana are still under water-bomb conditions. Apart from this, many areas in Delhi are also flooded. The relief is that now the water level of Yamuna is gradually decreasing, although many areas are still flooded.

Punjab CM reviewed the rescue operations

In Punjab, Chief Minister Bhagwant Man has announced that more than 83,000 hectares of land will be replanted in view of the flood situation. CM Mann yesterday reviewed the rescue operations in the flood affected areas of Ferozepur and Jalandhar districts. It also said that in case of house collapse due to flood, the government will give Rs 1.25 lakh as compensation to the victims and Rs 1 lakh for the damage caused due to collapse of cattle shed.

Many roads in Delhi are still under water

In Delhi yesterday, several important roads connecting east with the rest of Delhi were inundated due to the Yamuna floods. Because of this, ITO and Geeta Colony bridges had to be closed while the traffic on Signature Bridge and Shastri Park was closed. Apart from this, 13 districts of Haryana are still in the grip of floods and 982 villages have been submerged in water out of which 222 villages have been cut off from the district for five days. Yesterday, air force helicopters delivered relief materials to several villages. In addition, the Haryana government admitted that 20 people have died so far in flood-related incidents.

Rivers overflowed in Assam

The release of water from Bhutan's Kurichu Dam has increased the risk of flooding in low-lying areas of Assam. The rivers have overflowed due to continuous rain. Vishwanath, Bongaigaon, Chirang, Dhemaji, Dibrugarh, Kokrajhar, Majuli, Nalbari, Tamulpur and Tinsukia are experiencing flood conditions.

Landslides in Sikkim

Landslides triggered by heavy rains in Sikkim cut off connectivity from North and East Sikkim as well as the rest of the state. For this, officials are trying to restore connectivity at the earliest.
