Kailas Mansarovar Yatra: Uttarakhand Govt's consideration of alternative route

- Yatra was stopped due to corona epidemic

- Preparedness of State Government to develop Old Lipulekh Peak as a religious tourist destination

Pithoragarh: As the Kailas Mansarovar Yatra has been canceled for the past few years, the Uttarakhand Tourism Department is considering finding an alternative route from the old Lipulekh peak for darshan of Mount Kailas, the abode of Lord Shiva, officials said on Tuesday.

The peak lies west of Lipulekh Ghat, the gateway to Tibet. Last in 2019, Lipulekh Ghat to Kailas Mansarovar Yatra was held. In the year 2020, this trip was canceled due to the Corona epidemic. After that it could not start. Dharchula Sub-Divisional Magistrate Devesh Shashani said officials from the tourism department, district authorities, adventure tourism experts and officials from the Border Road Organization recently visited the old Lipulekh peak. Kailas mountain can be seen from there. The team visited the place to see how it can be developed as a religious tourism destination. District Tourism Officer Kriti Chand said, Darshan of 'Kailas Dham' from old Lipulekh peak can be an alternative route of Kailas-Mansarovar Yatra. Our team was asked to present a report on the potential of religious tourism in Vyas Valley. For this we visited old Lipulekh peak, Nabhidhang and Adi Kailas region. Snow scooters can take you to the summit, which is 19,000 feet above sea level and 1,800 meters above Lipulekh Ghat. BRO has constructed a road to the base of the peak. Residents of Vyas valley said that people who cannot cross Mansarovar due to old age and health reasons can have darshan of Kailas Parvas from old Lipulekh peak.
