Imphal: In the northeastern state of Manipur, violence continues unabated. Since May 3, incidents of violence and fire have been happening in many places in the state. Despite repeated peace appeals by the state and central governments, the violence continues unabated. The Maitei and Kuki tribes have come face to face. Meanwhile, former Army Chief Ved Prakash Malik has appealed to the high level to give immediate attention to Manipur.

Apart from Malik, former army officer Nishikant Singh expressed concern over the state's situation on Twitter and requested the Prime Minister, Home Minister and Defense Minister to hold high-level talks to resolve this dispute.

It is well known that violence broke out in Manipur on 3rd May after a rally by the Kuki tribal community. The rally was held against the granting of tribal status to the state's majority Maitei community.
More than 100 people have been killed and more than 300 injured in the violence that erupted after that rally. More than 10 thousand houses have been burnt. In addition, numerous private and government buildings and properties in Manipur have been severely damaged.
It may be mentioned that retired General Ved Prakash Malik originally hails from Manipur.
