Britain to remove Chinese surveillance cameras from sensitive locations

( PTI) London , dt. 8

The British Government plans to publish a deadline for the removal of surveillance devices, including Chinese cameras, in sensitive locations as part of a move to strengthen national security.

The move comes weeks after British Prime Minister Rishi Sunakana made a statement in which he said China posed the biggest challenge to global security and prosperity.

A report from the government will be tabled in parliament next week, but before that, a proposal for revisions to the government's procurement bill has been tabled.

Britain's Cabinet Office said on Wednesday it is committed to publishing a timeline for removing surveillance equipment from sensitive central government sites that are manufactured by companies that fall under China's National Intelligence Law.

It said the decision was based on actions taken last year to prevent the installation of new devices on government properties.

Britain's Cabinet Office minister Jeremy Quinn said the new measures would protect our sensitive sectors from companies that could pose a threat to national security. These measures are a strong deterrent against hostile elements who seek to harm Britain.

At the G-7 meeting in Japan last month, Sunak said that China poses a major challenge to global security and prosperity.
