All night firing in Suganu-Sairo amid violence in Manipur, 1 BSF jawan martyred, 2 injured

The situation of Violence in Manipur has remained unchanged for the last one month. A Border Security Force (BSF) jawan and two Assam Rifles jawans were martyred in an encounter with suspected militants here.

Seizure of goods including large quantity of weapons

An exchange of fire broke out between suspected militants and security forces during an investigation operation in Serau of Kakching district last night. BSF jawan Ranjit Yadav was martyred in the firing incident. Defense sources said that the injured jawans of Assam Rifles have been taken to Mantripukhari in Imafal. Two AK rifles, one 51 mm mortar, two carbines, a large number of arms and ammunition and war paraphernalia have been seized from Serau during preliminary investigation.

BSF-terrorists exchanged fire throughout the night

Assam Rifles, BSF and Manipul Police launched a massive operation in Suganu and Serou areas, sources said. Meanwhile, firing continued throughout the night between the security forces and the insurgents. The BSF personnel also gave a jaw-dropping reply to the firing.

More troops needed in Manipur

A defense statement said the deployment of more troops was needed due to several incidents of violence, fire and firing in Suganu and Sero in the last 48 hours. Soldiers were tasked to stop the violence.

All the houses in Serau are fully occupied

Despite the outbreak of sexual violence in Manipur on Monday, the situation was comparatively peaceful in Suganu. However, on June 2, armed militants set fire to the house of former minister and Congress MLA K. Ranjeet as well as several other houses. All the houses in Serau are completely burnt and people are taking shelter in Suganu. People have started attacking the camp of the Kuki extremist group after the incident of houses being set on fire.

98 deaths in sexual violence in Manipur so far

At least 98 people have been killed and 310 injured in the sexual violence that started a month ago in Manipur. Currently, a total of 37 thousand 450 people are taking shelter in 272 relief camps. It may be mentioned that a tribal unity march was organized in the hill districts on May 3 against the Meitei community's demand for Scheduled Tribe (ST) status in Manipur... Clashes followed. 53 percent of Manipur are Meitis and they live mainly in the Imphal Valley. Tribals - Nagas and Kukis constitute 40 percent of the population and live in the hill districts. About 10,000 Army and Assam Rifles personnel have been deployed to restore peace in the state.
