- 'If signals are not heeded and improved, such accidents will continue to happen': Retired Railway Officer
New Delhi: The horrific triple Train Accident in Odisha has drawn the attention of engineers to a possible fault in the interlocking of the signaling system.
One such accident happened on the 8th of February this year. At that point the driver noticed the fault, so he stopped the 'Sampark Kranti' train. So the terrible accident stopped happening.
Harishankar Verma, retired Principal Chief Operations Manager of South Western Railway has prepared a note in this regard. It said that if the signal maintenance system is not checked frequently and any faults found in it are not rectified immediately, such accidents will continue to happen again and again.
This letter was displayed by the Congress in a press conference held on Sunday. After this Trinamul Congress spokesperson Saket Gomse asked why the Railways ignored the letter. Why was the railway system oblivious to the warning given in it? If it had been paid attention to, the collision of passenger and goods train could have been avoided. In fact, it was the inter-locking failure that caused such a huge loss of life.
