Ukraine dam attack: 'flood' in many areas

- Putin-Zelensky showdown: Ukraine warns of ecological disaster

- Europe's largest nuclear power plant is also at risk due to dam failure Russia-Ukraine evacuate thousands of people from their areas

- Nova Kkhovaka Dam Explosion Act of Terror by Russia : Zelenskyi, Dam Damaged by Ukraine Attacks : Russia

KIEV: An attack on the Nova Kkhovka dam in Russian-controlled territory in southern Ukraine has caused part of its wall to collapse, flooding low-lying areas and putting Europe's largest nuclear power plant at risk. Not only this, there is also a shortage of drinking water supply here. Both Russia and Ukraine have begun evacuating people from areas under their control as the dam poses a risk of flooding to people living in low-lying areas. Along with this, Ukraine and Russia have blamed each other for the attack on the dam.

A dam on the Nipra River in the Russian-controlled Kherson province was attacked on Tuesday, but it was not clear who carried out the attack. However, the cause of the dam break is believed to be an explosion. President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky has accused Russian terrorists of demolishing the dam. He said, Russia is a terrorist. The destruction of the Nova Kkhovaka Dam proves to the whole world that the Russians must be thrown out of every corner of the land of Ukraine. He tweeted that not even one meter of land should be spared for Russia, as they will use even that much land for terror. Terrorists cannot stop Ukraine with water, missiles or anything else.

On the other hand, Vladimir Leontev, a Russian officer posted in Nova Kkhovka, said that the damage to the dam was caused by Ukraine's attack. However, Vladimir Rogov, another Russian official stationed in Zaporozhye, said the dam was already damaged and collapsed due to water pressure. Due to the damage of the dam, the streets, roads and shops-offices were flooded and emergency department officials immediately started evacuation of the area.

More than 22,000 people are at risk of flooding in the Russian-controlled area of Kherson, while 16,000 people are in the Ukrainian-controlled area. The dam failure has given a new dimension to Russia's war in Ukraine.

The Nova Kakhovka Dam is in Russia-controlled territory near the city of Kherson in southern Ukraine. Russian army captured Kherson in March 2022. However, in November 2022, Ukraine retaliated and captured this province from Russia. The Russian army then retreated to the southern bank of the Dnieper River. Russia currently dominates the southern area of the dam while Ukraine dominates the northern area. In such a situation Russia is suffering the most due to dam failure. This is making it difficult for the Army to operate, including Russian tanks and artillery.

Nova Kakhovka Dam is 98 feet high and 3.2 km long. The dam's reservoir supplies cooling water to six reactors at the Zaporizhia nuclear power plant. If there is a shortage of water in a nuclear power unit, it can overheat the reactor and increase the probability of an explosion.

If Ukraine gets nuclear-armed F-16s, there will be serious consequences: Russia

US-made F-16 fighter jets are capable of carrying nuclear weapons. While there is movement in the US to give these planes to Ukraine, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov warned that if F-16s equipped with nuclear weapons are given to Ukraine, the war will be more serious and its consequences will be worse. Lavrov made the threat in a speech at a military airport in Dushanbe, Tajikistan, according to a transcript on Russia's Defense Ministry website. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has been demanding F-16 fighter jets from America for a long time. Zelensky says that F-16s with Ukrainian pilots will be a sure sign that Russia's offensive will end in defeat.

In the ICRC, Ukraine called Russia a 'terrorist country'

Ukraine's top diplomat called Russia a "terrorist state" as the case against Moscow began at the United Nations' highest court, and Ukrainian lawyers argued that Russia encouraged terrorism by fomenting rebels in eastern Ukraine in 2014. On July 17, 2014, Ukraine requested the court to order Moscow to pay compensation for attacks in Ukrainian provinces, including the downing of Malaysian Airlines flight MH17 by Russian-backed terrorists. Ukrainian lawyer Harold Koh said that despite the instructions not to supply terrorists in their country, they brought more deadly weapons to Ukraine and Ukrainian citizens are facing more harassment.
