External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar said that sometimes some things are bigger than politics when you are outside the country. He made this comment while referring to Congress leader Rahul Gandhi's ongoing US visit, in which he has been continuously attacking Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
Jaishankar targeted Rahul Gandhi
Addressing Indian-Americans in Santa Clara, USA earlier this week, Rahul called Prime Minister Modi a "role model" and attacked his government's policies on various fronts. At a tourism event in Cape Town after attending the BRICS foreign ministers' meeting, Jaishankar had said in reference to Rahul that he should speak for himself and not do politics during his foreign visits.
What did Jaishankar say on foreign policy?
He said in his reference that when I am on a foreign tour, I only talk about myself and try not to do politics. Yes, I am always up for a great discussion when I am at home. Jaishankar said that a part of Indian foreign policy today is focused on protecting the welfare of Indian citizens abroad. Considering the globalization of Indians today, it is essential that mechanisms are put in place, which can help them in difficult situations in every possible way. Just a few days ago we evacuated our citizens from Sudan under very dire conditions.
Jaishankar met Ramaphosa
External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar along with his counterparts also met South African President Cyril Ramaphosa. Meanwhile, Ramaphosa briefly discussed bilateral relations with Jaishankar and conveyed his best wishes to Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Foreign Ministers of Russia, China and Brazil were also present in this meeting along with Jaishankar.
