Half of the platforms of this railway station change states, half being in Gujarat and half being in Maharashtra.

Ahmedabad, June 3, 2023, Saturday

Due to the special type of demarcation between the border of Gujarat and Maharashtra state, half of the platform of the Railway Station of Nawapur village in Maharashtra is in Gujarat and half of the platform is in Maharashtra. Hence, a board has been installed on the half way of this platform spread over 200 meters towards Gujarat and towards Maharashtra.

Nawapur is thus the last village of Maharashtra state but right in the middle of its railway station Tapi district of Gujarat begins. Passengers can be seen crossing the border of one state to another state on the platform. When the train stops, its engine is in Gujarat and its back compartment is in Maharashtra border. It has become very common for railway police to go from one state to another state during the day while on duty at the station.

Passengers waiting for the train also deliberately cross the border for fun. On the platform, the boundary arrows of both the states have been installed, where people are standing and taking photos. Nawapur village located on the border of Maharashtra and Gujarat is one of the two or three stations in the country where the same railway station is located in two states.

The funniest thing is that it is a crime to drink, consume, sell or bring liquor in Gujarat, while there is no ban on liquor in the state of Maharashtra. However, both parts of this railway station have been included under the liquor ban.
