Former Pakistan PM Bhutto was defeated by Zia-ul-Haqque and Nawaz Sharif by Musharraf.

- ISI played an important role in Imran's coronation: Yet Faisal's eyes on Imran

Islamabad: The "Jail-Yatra" of former Prime Ministers in Pakistan is not a new thing; Nor is it anything new to overthrow the throne and establish a dictatorship by the military. Army intervention in governance is a longstanding tradition there.

Now Imran Khan has alleged that Faisal Naseer, the number two in Pakistan's much-vaunted inter-national spy agency, the ISI, not only conspired against him, but that Naseer also tried to kill him. Imran also said that Faisal Naseer was also involved in the murder of journalist Arshad Sharif.

One thing to note here is that Pakistan Army and ISI played an important role in Imran Khan's "crowning" in 2018. Qamar Javed Bajwa was the Army Chief at that time. But later, the standoff between Imran and Bajwa grew.

It is worth mentioning that there was a sour relationship between former PM Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto and Zia-ul-Haq. Not only that but it happened twice in the history of Pakistan that an officer was appointed as P.M. The same military officer appointed by the Army Chief can depose him.

Bhutto was the Prime Minister of Pakistan from 1973 to 1977. He made Zia-ul-Haqq the Army Chief in 1976, setting aside the distinction of four senior officers.

At that time Zia-ul-Haqq was a junior rank officer. Four was not even a commander but his relationship with Bhutto soured a few days after becoming the Army Chief. Within a year, he turned the tables. Bhutto was hanged in 1979.

Pervez Musharraf played a similar game against Nawaz Sharif. Sharif himself made Musharraf the army chief in 1998 but within a year he had made a coup, becoming a dictator himself. As a result, Nawaz Sharif had to leave the country. However, later due to the court order, Musharraf also had to leave the country. He passed away in UAE recently after a long illness.

Nawaz Sharif left Pakistan but his brother Shahwaz Sharif is now the Prime Minister.
