Meeting of Foreign Ministers in SCO: Pakistan's Foreign Minister in India for 12 years

Benauli (Goa): Pakistan's Foreign Minister Bilawal Bhutto Zardari arrived in India on Thursday to attend the meeting of Foreign Ministers in the Shanghai Cooperation Organization. Foreign Minister of Pakistan is coming for the first time since 2011. Meanwhile, India's External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar held a meeting with the Chinese Foreign Minister and stressed on resolving the border dispute to improve bilateral relations.

Bilawal Bhutto's visit to India for the SCO meeting is of great importance as India-Pakistan relations have been strained for the past few years on several issues, including Pakistan's continued promotion of cross-border terrorism in Jammu and Kashmir. Earlier in 2011, Pakistan's Foreign Minister Hina Rabbani Khar visited India. Bilawal Bhutto Zardari said, I am happy to reach Goa from Pakistan for the meeting of SCO Foreign Ministers. It is hoped that this meeting will be successful. However, during this meeting, Bilawal and India's Foreign Minister S. There is no possibility of a bilateral meeting between Jaishankar. Sources said that there has been no request for such a meeting from Pakistan either. Meanwhile, India's External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar held a meeting with Chinese Foreign Minister Qin Gang ahead of the SCO Foreign Ministers' meeting and stressed on peace and stability along the Line of Actual Control and resolution of the Eastern Ladakh border dispute to normalize bilateral relations between the two countries. Jai Shankar held a meeting with Qin Gang at the Taj Exotica Resort for about an hour.

Apart from this, Jaishankar also held a meeting with Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov. He reviewed the India-Russia Special Strategic Partnership relationship in the backdrop of Russia's deteriorating relations with the West over the Ukraine war. The two foreign ministers discussed various issues for about an hour.
