Keeping in view the possibility of bad weather in Kedarnath valley, Uttarakhand government has decided. Uttarakhand government has decided to close the registration for Kedarnath Dham Yatra till May 8. This decision has been taken as there is a possibility of bad weather in Kedarnathghati for the next 3 to 4 days.

The doors of Kedarnath Dham were opened on 25th April

This year the gates of Kedarnath Dham were opened on 25th April. More than 1 lakh devotees from the country have visited Kedarnath Dham till May 4. Taking lessons from the 2013 disaster, the Uttarakhand government is exercising extreme caution in the Chardham Yatra, particularly the Kedarnath Yatra, amid persistent adverse weather conditions in the upper Garhwal Himalayan region. Due to heavy snowfall and rain, not only the Kedarnath Yatra has been postponed on Wednesday, but pilgrims coming towards the shrine have been stopped at various halts including Rishikesh, Srinagar, Fata, Gaurikund. However, the Kedarnath Yatra was resumed yesterday as the weather improved a little.

It was decided to stop the journey due to bad weather

The Director General of Police of Uttarakhand said that the decision to stop the Yatra was taken due to bad weather. So that passengers can be saved from any possible unpleasant situation. He said that there is full preparedness to face any kind of possible calamity. However, no major damage was done in Kedarnath during this time. On Wednesday itself, a large part of the Kuber Glacier collapsed in the Kedarnath Valley and fell on the pedestrian path. Due to which the entire road was covered with snow. Apart from this, four porters of Nepali origin who were coming from Lincholi to Kedarnath were also trapped in the ice due to the break of the glacier. A team of State Disaster Response Force reached the spot and evacuated these people safely.
