Water Metro is the dream project of the state

Kochi Water Metro is considered a dream project of the state which will accelerate the development of Kochi. The project is being executed by the Kochi Metro Rail Corporation Limited at a cost of Rs 747 crore. The project is being implemented with the help of a German funding agency. The country's first water metro will connect Kochi and its 10 surrounding islands, making for an exciting tour of tourist destinations.

78 waterboats will also be started

This water metro will have diesel powered generator backup. These modern boats will replace the ferry services to the islands around Kochi operated by the Water Transport Department. The ferry service to these islands has until now been criticized for lack of facilities and safety.
