Floods and landslides due to heavy rains in Brazil: 36 people died

At least 36 people have been killed in floods and landslides caused by heavy rains in Brazil's northern Sao Paulo state. The number of dead can still increase. Thirty-five people have died in the city of Sao Sebastiano, while a seven-year-old girl has died in Ubatuba.

The citiesof Sao Sebastiano ,Ubatuba , Ilhabela and Bertioga are among the most affected areas. The carnival festival has been canceled in view of this natural calamity.

The rescue team is searching for the missing , injured and those buried in the debris. Felipe Augusto, mayor of Sao Sebastian, said that our rescue team cannot reach every place. Many people are missing and more than 50 houses have collapsed due to the landslide.

Some videos of this disaster have gone viral on Social Media. In a video, local people are saving a child who is drowning in flood water.

Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula de Silva said on Twitter that he would travel to the affected areas. More than 23.6 inches of rain fell in a single day in Sao Paulo, the heaviest rainfall ever recorded in a single day. Bertioga alone has received 687 mm of rainfall during this period.
