In the ongoing dispute between the wrestlers and the wrestling federation, the Indian Olympic Association (IOA) has taken an important decision. The IOA has constituted a 7-member committee to probe the allegations of sexual harassment against WFI chief Brijbhushan Sharan Singh, to be headed by Mary Kom. While Alaknanda Ashok will remain as the Vice President. Dola Banerjee, Yogeshwar Dutt, Sahadev Yadav and 2 lawyers are also included in this 7 member committee.
IOA Executive Council meeting held
The Indian Olympic Association president has issued a statement saying that an emergency Meeting of the Ioa Executive Council was held online at 5.45 pm, which continued for one and a half hours continuously till 7.30 pm. In this meeting, the complaint of five athletes Vinesh Phogat, Bajrang Punia, Sakshi Malik, Ravi Dahiya and Deepak Punia was discussed. The meeting was attended by special members including IOC Athletes Commission member Abhinav Bindra and Shiv Keshavan.
The IOA appreciated the prompt action taken by the Sports Ministry
In this meeting, it was agreed that the media should not be misled by the trial. In this meeting, it was decided that a committee should be constituted as per the Prevention of Sexual Harassment of Women Act-2013 and both sides would have to be heard. After that the report has to be submitted to the President of IOA. The committee has been instructed to hold a meeting at the earliest. The IOA said it appreciates the prompt action taken by the Sports Ministry.
