A few days ago Swarupananda Saraswati celebrated his 99th birthday in which many veteran leaders including Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chauhan visited him. His birth day was celebrated on Hariyali Teej day. He also fought a long legal battle for the construction of the Ram temple.

Shankaracharya Swami Swaroopananda Saraswati's Ganga Ashram is located at Joteshwar in Narsinghpur district. He breathed his last at 03:30 pm on Sunday. He was born on 2 September 1924 at Siwani, Madhya Pradesh. In 1982, he became the Shankaracharya of Dwarka Sarada Peeth in Gujarat and Jyotir Math in Badrinath.

Shankaracharya Saraswati's parents named him Pothiram Upadhyay as a child. He left home at the age of 9 and took the path of religion. Swami Shankaracharya Saraswati studied Veda-Vedanga and scriptures in Kashi.

Swami Swarupananda Saraswati also took part in the freedom struggle. He also served 15 months in jail. He served 9 months in Varanasi and 6 months in Madhya Pradesh.

In 1942, when the British raised the slogan of Quit India, Swarupananda Saraswati also jumped into the freedom struggle. At the age of 19 at that time, he became famous as a 'revolutionary monk'. He was also the chairman of Ram Rajya Parishad, the political party of Karpatri Maharaj. In 1950 he was made a Dandi monk and in 1981 he received the title of Shankaracharya. Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi has condoled the demise of Swami Swarupananda Saraswati. He wrote that Swamiji devoted his entire life to religion, spirituality and charity. In the year 2021, after bathing in the Ganga in Prayagraj, after receiving his blessings, we had an opportunity to discuss with him about the country, generosity towards religion, goodwill. Swamiji performed our house entry pooja in 1990 when he was my father. This is an irreparable loss to the entire society. We pray to God to give strength to Swamiji's followers in these moments of sorrow.
