On August 12, a famous English writer of Indian origin was attacked with a stick during an event in New York. Writer Salman Rushdie had to be put on a ventilator after the attack. The 24-year-old accused Hadi Matar, who was caught after the attack, has expressed surprise that the writer survived the attack.

Jailed Hadi Mutter made this statement during a video interview. However, he did not clarify whether he himself was inspired by the fatwa issued by the former Supreme Leader of Iran, Ayatollah Ruhollah Khomeini, in 1989. In that fatwa, Muslims were ordered to kill the author. According to the accused, he respects the Ayatollah and thinks he is a great person.
What did Rushdie say?
Hadi Matar said about author Salman Rushdie that he read a few pages of Rushdie's novel and did not like the man. According to him, Rushdie is not a good person. They attack Islam, they attack beliefs, belief systems.
It may be mentioned that Salman Rushdie had to be kept on ventilator after the attack but now he has been removed from the ventilator. Hadi Matar denied the charge of attempted murder during a court appearance on Saturday and was denied bail.
