Afghanistan: 20 killed, over 40 injured in Kabul mosque bomb blast

At least 20 people, including a chief cleric, were killed in a bomb blast at a mosque in the Afghan capital, Kabul, during evening prayers on Wednesday. While more than 40 people have been injured. The police and an eyewitness gave information about this. However, no one has immediately taken responsibility for the current attack.

The blast is said to have taken place at Siddiquiya Masjid in Kher Khana area. An explosion at a mosque north of Kabul during evening prayers has killed 20 people and wounded 40 others, an Afghan security source told Al Jazeera on Wednesday. The Taliban have claimed full control of Afghanistan, but the Islamic State has been carrying out attacks on civilians and police across the country.

On condition of anonymity, an eyewitness said the slain cleric was Mullah Amir Mohammad Kabuli. He said that more than 40 people have been injured in this incident. An Italian emergency hospital in Kabul said at least 27 injured civilians, including five children, had been brought from the scene. At the same time, 10 people were killed and 40 injured in two deadly explosions in Kabul two weeks ago. The Islamic State claimed responsibility for the incident.

Khalid Zadran, a Taliban-appointed spokesman for the Kabul police chief, confirmed the explosion inside a mosque in northern Kabul but gave no information on casualties. Taliban spokesman Zabihullah Mujahid also condemned the blast and promised that the perpetrators of such crimes would be punished soon.
