Johnson & Johnson to stop selling baby powder worldwide

Johnson & Johnson baby powder will not be seen in the market next year from 2023. The company has decided to stop selling talc-based baby powder globally from 2023. The company said that the sale of this powder, which has been sold in the world for 128 years, was stopped in America and Canada two years ago. At one time this baby powder was number-1 in India. However, over the years, sales of this powder have declined due to cancer cases in the world, including the United States.

Millions of women all over the world have occasionally used Johnson & Johnson baby powder on their babies. The product of this British company was very popular in India as well and was sold by name only. The company launched this product in 1894. But after there were cases in many countries of the world including America about this powder causing cancer, the company is tired of the legal cases on this product.

The company said it will stop selling talc-based baby powder and replace it with corn starch-based baby powder. The company stopped selling this powder in America and Canada two years ago. The company has more than 38,000 lawsuits against this product in the US. Many women have claimed that they developed ovarian cancer after using this baby powder.

The American regulator also claimed that they found cancer-causing elements in the company's baby powder. This powder contains material like asbestos, which can cause cancer. Many customers filed court cases on this issue and the company had to pay a penalty of thousands of crores of rupees. The company's lawyer said that the company has so far paid 7,968 crore rupees (approximately one billion dollars) in court-office rounds. The company is being forced to pay 3.5 billion dollars. The court in the state of St. Louis has asked the company to pay 2.5 billion dollars, i.e. approximately 20 thousand crores in Indian rupees, to 20 women who have accused the company. Cases are still going on against this powder in many places in the world. However, the company denied these allegations. The company said it withdrew the product due to declining sales in North America.

The talc used in the company's baby powder is the world's softest mineral. It is produced in many countries. It is widely used in many industries including paper, plastics and pharmaceuticals. This powder is also used in nappy rash and many types of personal hygiene.
