Ban on personal use of jammers and boosters, also illegal buying and selling: Government of India

New delhi date. 4 July 2022, Monday

The Government of India has banned the personal use of jammers, network boosters and repeaters. The Department of Telecommunications and the Ministry of Communications have issued an advisory on the personal use of wireless jammers and booster / repeaters on July 1, 2022. The advisory states that the use of jammers, GPS blockers or other signal jamming devices without the permission of the Government of India is illegal. Its private buying and selling has also been completely banned

Advertising is also illegal

The advisory also states that it is illegal to advertise, sell, distribute, import or list for sale on any site signal jamming equipment in India.

With regard to signal booster / repeater, it is said that it is illegal for any person / ACT other than licensed telecommunication service providers to own, sell or use mobile signal repeater / booster.

The Cellular Operators Association of India (COAI) has welcomed the government's decision. "We welcome the DoT's advice to address the challenges posed by the installation of the signal repeater / booster," the COAI said. People are unaware that buying and installing mobile signals under the Wireless Telegraphy Act 1933 and the India Telegraph Act, 1885 is an illegal and punishable offense. This adversely affects telecom services and we are pleased that the Government of India has recognized its importance in providing a seamless network and telecom experience to citizens across the country.
