Mehul Choksi was granted bail by a Dominican court for treatment

Mehul Choksi, a fugitive accused in the Punjab National Bank scam, has been granted bail by the Dominica High Court. A Dominican court has granted him bail to travel to Antigua for treatment following ill health.

Mehul Choksi was introduced to the court through a virtual medium from a hospital bed during the court hearing. Choksi's legal team is led by Douglas Mendes, a senior Trinidad lawyer. Other lawyers include Moore Dyer, Julian Prevost, Gina Dyer Munro, Van Nord and Cara Schillingford Marsh.

Relieving Mehul Choksi, the court said he would have to return in the case of illegal entry into Dominica. The court allowed him to travel to Antigua for treatment.

Earlier, Mehul Choksi's case was heard in Dominica court in the last week of June. He did not appear in court at the time due to ill health. He is being treated at a hospital in Dominica.

Choksi is accused of causing a loss of Rs 12,500 crore to PNB. He left India and fled to Antigua. He then stayed there for a long time. However in the last week of May he reached Dominica from there. Where the police arrested him.
