New Delhi: The case of Mehul Choksi illegally infiltrating Dominica was heard in the High Court. Mehul Choksi had sought bail on the issue, but the Dominican High Court rejected Mehul Choksi's plea, denying him bail.

A Dominican High Court judge has ruled that Mehul Choksi is likely to abscond if he is granted bail on an illegal infiltration charge. Mehul Choksi will now remain in jail till the High Court rejects his bail plea. India has filed two affidavits in Dominica court in the case of Mehul Choksi.

Sources said one of the petitions was filed by the CBI and the other by the External Affairs Ministry. The CBI and the External Affairs Ministry have filed affidavits on different issues. The CBI had declared Mehul Choksi a fugitive and issued an affidavit alleging that an Interpol notice had been issued against him. The External Affairs Ministry has filed an application for his Indian citizenship status. If the petitions filed by India are allowed by the court, then the country's senior advocate Harish Salve will argue on behalf of India.

The CBI told a Dominican court that Mehul Choksi was the mastermind behind several companies and that he and others had conspired with officials to illegally obtain credit by abusing the banking process. The CBI told the Dominica court that an attempt was made to arrest Mehul Choksi during the investigation, but there was no information about his address and he was not in India.

A hearing on the petition will be held later. On May 23, Mehul Choksi went missing from Antigua and Barbuda under mysterious circumstances and was caught making illegal entry into neighboring Dominica. He is accused of entering illegally. He has lived in Antigua as a citizen since 2018. However, Mehul's lawyers allege that he was abducted and taken to Dominica.

PNB scam: Mehul Choksi's wife ED on radar

Mehul Choksi, accused in a multi-crore scam in PNB (Punjab National Bank), has come up against the news of increasing obstruction. The ED (Enforcement Directorate) is now indicting Choksi's wife Preeti in connection with the bank scam. A second chargesheet will be filed in this regard soon.

Mehul Choksi, who absconded after committing a scam in PNB Bank, transferred crores of rupees in the name of his wife Preeti. Most of these properties are abroad. This includes other cities abroad, including Dubai.

The property has been sold through money laundering. Preeti has been named as the nominee in all these properties, so the ED is likely to take action. In addition, in 2014, a large amount of money from a company's account was deposited in a Gitanjali group company. All this money was then transferred to Preeti Choksi's account.
